I was beating my day because the index was not being printed on the report.
Later, after a good number of search(es), I found that this is interesting feature of MikTex 2.9
The problem was solved by changing %bm to %tm in the MakeIndex option.
Here is what I did:
Go to build > Define Output Profiles (Alt+F7)
Change %bm to %tm in the MakeIndex option.
Probably same thing needs to happen with Bibtex (if problem persists).

Did you try \newpage ?
(\pagebreak command tells LaTeX to break the current page at the point of the command... )

well, somehow that didn't work for me either.... but i defined myself another postprocessing tool in texniccenter with the path of the makeindex program and ""%tm".nlo -s nomencl.ist -o "%tm".nls"

You have no idea how long I'd been trying to figure out what was wrong! I tried everything, even changing my document class (which was fine, I wanted to do that anyway)!
